Obituary: Winifred (Winnie) J. Garrity, 67, Of Cheshire
A graduate of Cheshire High School and Virginia Commonwealth University, she was a devoted teacher who loved her children.
CHESHIRE, CT — (From Alderson-Ford Funeral Home): Winifred (Winnie) J. Garrity, 67, of Cheshire, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a brief battle with cancer.
Winnie was born January 28, 1955, in New Haven. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Joseph E. and Mary Lois Garrity.
Raised in Cheshire, Winnie spent more than 40 years in Richmond, Virginia, before returning to CT in 2010. She is a graduate of Cheshire High School and Virginia Commonwealth University, where she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Special Education.

A devoted a teacher who loved her children, Winnie worked in the Richmond, Virginia school system, retiring after more than 35 years of teaching. After retirement, she returned to Cheshire and provided loving companionship and care to her mother until her passing.
She leaves her siblings, Nancy Garrity of Beverly Shores, IN; Christopher Garrity of Cheshire; and Patrick Garrity of Middletown.

A private Mass of Christian Burial was held at Saint Bridget of Sweden Parish/Saint Bridget Church in Cheshire with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury.
The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire was entrusted with Winnie’s arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to The Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
