Victim In Violent Domestic Dispute Dies, Cheshire Police Say

CHESHIRE, CT — A Cheshire woman has died from injuries sustained in a violent domestic dispute with her husband last week. Emanuel Dominguez-VillaGomez, 31, was arrested after the incident last Wednesday and is being held on a $1 million bond.

"It is with great sadness that we must now inform you that his spouse and the victim in this incident, Monica Dominguez, has passed away," Lt. Michael Durkee said in an update said Sunday.

At about 8:40 p.m. on Sept. 11, police received a 911 call from a cellphone in the 700 block of Mountain Road in Cheshire. Responding officers found Monica Dominguez on the floor in a pool of blood, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The Record-Journal reports the arrest warrant states that Dominguez told police that her husband tried to kill her because, “He say I cheated on him.”

Dominguez-VillaGomez, who opened the door for police, claimed self-defense and told police that the victim — who sustained 20-30 stab and puncture wounds — had attacked him, according to the Hartford Courant.

The Courant reports Dominguez-VillaGomez told police that they argued, “We argued, she grabbed knives, she had it and I just went crazy.”

Dominguez and Dominguez-VillaGomez were both treated at the scene and taken to separate hospitals. Dominguez was in critical condition.

After being released from the hospital, Dominguez-VillaGomez was arrested on charges of first-degree assault, risk of injury, reckless endangerment and unlawful restraint.

Cheshire Police are working closely with the Office of the State's Attorney on new charges for Dominguez-VillaGomez, according to Durkee.
