Phone Scam Warnings Issued By Cheshire Police

Police are warning residents of two phone scams that have been reported in Cheshire.

CHESHIRE, CT — Cheshire police are warning residents of a potential phone scam regarding Medicare coverage, and another scam where the person poses as a law enforcement officer.

Police said in the first scam, the victim’s Caller ID showed “Town of Cheshire” and the caller then “inquired about the victim’s Medicare coverage in the hopes of obtaining the victim's personal information.”

“We have also learned of a similar type of phone scam, where the Caller ID will show the local police department and the actor will pose as a law enforcement officer,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “This type of scam has been going on for a while and usually involves a request for a money transfer to bail out a loved one.

“Please use caution when receiving these types of calls and remember that the Town of Cheshire does not issue Medicare coverage. Also, no Police Officer would ever call you and ask for you to send them cash, or gift cards to post a bail or in lieu of an arrest.

“If you or a loved one receive a phone call similar to this and are unsure if it is legitimate or not, please contact the Cheshire Police Department at 203-271-5500.
