Police Warn Residents Of Phone Scam In Cheshire

Police say the fraudulent phone calls appear to be coming from town offices, such as Town Hall.

CHESHIRE, CT — Cheshire police are warning residents of fraudulent phone calls that have been reported in town. Police have been alerted to calls that appear to be coming from the Town of Cheshire offices, such as Town Hall, etc.

“As a reminder - never give out financial, personal, or identifying information over the phone that could compromise your safety or your finances,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “If you have a concern, call our Department for guidance. Callers allegedly from the IRS, foreign governments, and the social security administration are all common scams. Rule of thumb: When in doubt, just hang up.”
