Popular Pizzeria Damaged In Fire In Cheshire

Crews worked for more than an hour to bring the stubborn fire under control, according to officials.

CHESHIRE, CT — A popular pizzeria was damaged in a fire Tuesday in Cheshire, according to fire officials.

Crews responded to Fuoco Apizza at 461 West Main St. around 11:05 a.m. on the report of a fire in the kitchen, according to officials.

A deputy fire marshal arrived at the scene about a minute later and found heavy smoke coming from the structure, according to a post on the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page. Engine 4 and Truck 1 arrived three minutes after being dispatched.

“Firefighters forced entry, stretched hose lines, cut vent holes on the roof, and extinguished the fire,” officials wrote in the post on Facebook. “In total 25 firefighters responded in addition to an engine company from the Town of Southington. Firefighters chased the stubborn fire in void spaces. It took crews 1 hour and 23 minutes to bring the fire under control.”

The owners said it will be "some time" before the restaurant reopens due to the damage.

"To All Family and Friends that have reached out to me I’m sorry I couldn’t answer you it has been a very sad and emotional day," reads a post on the restaurant's Facebook page. "Fuoco’s had a fire today and we lost everything and most importantly nobody was hurt. It will be sometime before we reopen and I will make sure I keep everyone posted please be patient and I will reach out to all of you."
