Power Outage Closes Cheshire School Early

Highland Elementary School is dismissing early on Thursday.

Highland Elementary School in Cheshire closed early on Thursday, Feb. 25 due to a power outage.

The school dismissed at 11 a.m.

Thunderstorms rolled through the state around midnight knocking power out, downing trees and power lines.

Eversource reported 91 outages in Cheshire as of 11:15 a.m.

More than 70 schools in Connecticut were impacted by the massive storm. Wind gusts were reported as high as 75 mph which is the strength of a Category 1 hurricane.

At one point, early this morning 100 percent of some smaller local Connecticut towns reported power outages. At its height, nearly 80,000 people in Connecticut lost power.
