A portion of the road will be closed beginning June 7 as part of a bridge replacement project.

CHESHIRE, CT — East Johnson Avenue between McCausland Court and Cheshire Street will be closed for the replacement of the bridge that spans the Quinnipiac River.

The existing bridge will be demolished and replaced and a portion of East Johnson Avenue will be reconstructed during the project.

The project will also include drainage work and will require relocation of a water main and overhead utilities, according to a press release from the Cheshire Public Works Department.
Federal and state grants will reimburse the town for 80 percent of the cost of the project, which is expected to cost about $3.9 million. When completed, the new bridge replacing the current 45-year-old structure will reduce the height of the 100-year flood and improve the road geometry, according to the public works department.
