Skunk Comes into Contact with Cheshire Dogs, Sent for Rabies Testing
The Cheshire Animal Control is reminding residents to make sure their pets are up to date with rabies vaccinations.

CHESHIRE, CT — A dead skunk that came into contact with two dogs has been sent to be tested for rabies and the Cheshire Animal Control is reminding residents to make sure their pets are up to date with rabies vaccinations.
The skunk came into contact with two dogs on Sycamore Lane Monday night and was transported to the state virology laboratory for testing on Wednesday morning after being found deceased under the homes deck by children on Tuesday afternoon, according to a press release.
The dogs were current with rabies vaccinations and were reboostered against rabies Wednesday afternoon in accordance with the Department of Agriculture rabies protocol.

“The family will be following their doctors’ orders regarding post exposure rabies vaccinations,” Animal Control Officer April Leiler wrote in the press release. “Cheshire Animal Control stresses the importance of vaccinating your pets against rabies to protect your pets and your family from this fatal virus.
