State Police Investigating Assault of Guards at Cheshire Correctional Institute
Correction officer that was stabbed in the neck by an inmate is reported to be in stable condition.

State Police are continuing their investigation of the assault of a correction officer, in which the guard was stabbed in the neck by an inmate, Thursday at the Cheshire Correctional Institute on Highland Avenue.
The injured correction officer received emergency care at the scene and was transported to an area hospital for treatment and was in stable condition, according to a state police press release.
State police said that a correction officer was escorting two inmates down a hallway at about 11:50 a.m. Thursday when they began to get verbally abusive to the officer. Additional officers came to assist with the disturbance, according to police.

One inmate moved toward an officer and stabbed the officer in the neck with a sharp object, according to police. Responding officers secured both inmates and placed them into detention at the facility.
Police said that upon the completion of the investigation arrest warrant applications will be submitted to Superior Court for the arrest of the inmates involved in the incident.
