Stories of Shipwreck and Survival at the Cheshire Library

Author Michael Tougias describes two harrowing shipwrecks at Wallingford Library, 7 p.m. Nov. 5 and Cheshire Library 7 p.m. Nov 6.

The public is invited to experience an “edge of your seat” story as author Michael Tougias discusses two of his recent books. He will also provide the latest update on Disney filming his 2008 co-authored book, The Finest Hours, which will star Chris Pine (Star Trek) and Casey Affleck (Gone Baby Gone).

He will be at Wallingford Library 7 p.m. Nov. 5 to make a presentation about Overboard! and at Cheshire Library 7pm Nov. 6 to discuss Rescue of the Bounty. Both events are free and open to the public.

Overboard! centers on the story of a local (Conn.) resident who was making a trip to Bermuda on a private sailboat when he and the captain got separated from the boat in a storm and spent 24 hours getting pummeled by the sea.

Rescue of the Bounty happened two years ago during Superstorm Sandy when the captain of that tall ship decided to leave safe harbor in New London and attempt to sail around the hurricane. Tougias and his co-author researched Capt Robin Walbridge extensively to form an hypothesis about his decision to sail in such forbidding conditions.
