Suspects Fired Shot At Man Who Confronted Them: Cheshire Police

The man followed and eventually confronted a group of people he said were breaking into cars overnight in Cheshire, according to police.

CHESHIRE, CT — A Cheshire resident told police his vehicle was shot at by a group of people he said were breaking into cars early Thursday morning.

Police responded to a report of a shooting around 1:40 a.m. The victim told police that he saw suspects in his neighborhood breaking into cars, according to Lt. Jeffrey Sutherland.

Sutherland said the man then drove around looking for the suspects and found them in a vehicle on Maple Avenue.

The victim followed and eventually pulled up next to the suspect vehicle and verbally confronted them, according to Sutherland. As the suspect vehicle pulled away from the victim, one of the passengers in the suspect vehicle fired a gunshot at the victim’s vehicle and damaged the vehicle, Sutherland said.

The victim wasn’t injured, according to Sutherland.

The suspect vehicle was described as a silver or gray Subaru Legacy sedan with four men inside, including three who were wearing hooded sweatshirts.

“The Cheshire Police Department would like to remind everyone that individuals attempting to break into vehicles are potentially armed and dangerous and extreme caution should always be used,” Sutherland wrote in a news release. “If criminal activity is observed, please immediately notify your local Police Department, and when possible, do so without alerting the suspects.”
