Threat Puts Cheshire Schools In ‘Secure Campus’ Mode: Police

Cheshire police will have an increased presence at dismissal times due to an emailed threat, according to officials.

CHESHIRE, CT — Cheshire schools were placed in a “secure campus” mode due to an emailed threat on Monday morning, according to police.

Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Solan placed all schools on secure campus mode in response to the email, according to Lt. Jeffrey Sutherland.

Sutherland said Cheshire police are working in conjunction with other jurisdictions in Connecticut, along with New York State Police, who are leading the investigation into the threat because it originated in Middletown, New York.

“The threat was very vague in nature, with a reference to an act of violence in New York before coming to Connecticut,” Sutherland wrote in a news release. “The emailed threat was received in multiple jurisdictions this morning, and at this time, there is no evidence that Cheshire was targeted for any specific reason.

“Cheshire Police Department officers will continue to work with New York authorities and officers will conduct location checks at schools for the remainder of the day, or longer if the investigation uncovers evidence to support further action. Out of an abundance of caution, CPD will provide a heightened presence at dismissal times today.”
