Top 5 Donna Summer Songs of All Time
The disco queen may be gone, but the mirrored ball still spins.
Donna Summer, the Queen of Disco, died Thursday at the age of 63. Among other things, she was the first artist to have three straight double albums reach No. 1, and she won five Grammys.
In honor of Ms. Summer, here are her top 5 songs of all time:
5. She Works Hard for the Money - OK, I remember Summer as more of a 70s icon than an 80s artist. But this little gem is timeless in serving as a constant reminder to “treat her right.” You know. Bring home some flowers once in a while. And would it kill you to shave and pick up after yourself? Jeez, you know, she works long hours to support your sorry bum. And all you do is sit home and eat pork rinds and watch MMA. Get a life. OK, I’m pretty sure I’m reading more into that song than I should.
4. On the Radio - Before you kids were born, we had just two ways of getting music: one was to buy the album or, if we were really tech savvy, 8-track of our favorite artist. The other was via terrestrial radio. We didn’t have the iPods and the iTunes and the digified new fangled contraptions that you kids have today. And you know what? We were thankful.
3. Hot Stuff - True story: When I was a kid, I thought Summer was singing about a meal that she wanted heated up. Times were simpler back in the 70s and, yes, I was an incredibly limited young lad.
2. Bad Girls - (Ed. Note: psst: those are the best kind.) Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.
1. Last Dance - Fact: There are laws on the books of 12 states that provide that if this song doesn’t end your wedding reception, then your marriage isn’t legally recognized.
