Two Charged in 'Distraction' Theft from Cheshire Nail Salon

Police say one of the suspects engaged store personnel while the other opened a cash register, grabbed the cash and fled.

Cheshire Police arrested two people in a “distraction type” of larceny from a nail salon located at 194 South Main Street on Friday afternoon.

Police responded to the scene at about 3:15 p.m. and said the suspects had entered the salon and while one engaged store personnel, the other opened a cash register and grabbed the cash inside.

Both suspects fled on foot to a nearby wooded area, according to police.

Police then set up a perimeter and a K-9 track was initiated.

Police said two individuals matching a description given by the victim and witnesses were located on a side street in the Wallingford Road/Woodpond Road area.

The suspects were later identified as Montel Bronson, 22, and Melkisha Smith, 20, and both were arrested and charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.
