Waterbury Ousts Cheshire from Legion State Tournament

Season ends for defending state champs.

The Cheshire American Legion baseball team’s bid to repeat as state champions came to an end with a 5-3 loss to Waterbury Sunday afternoon at Palmer Field in Middletown.

Waterbury (27-5) took control of the game with four unearned runs in the sixth inning.

“As I told the kids, even last year when we won the state championship, every season ends with a loss and last year we lost in the regional,” Cheshire coach Cliff Robertson told Jim Bransfield of GameTimeCT.com after the game.
