Your Take: Should the State Concede and Pay Back Costs on Sewer Overuse?

For years, Cheshire Correctional has exceeded their use of the town's sewer systems, leading to costs for maintenance and repairs in excess of their agreement. Is it time for the state to pay up? Give us your take.

The town is about to undergo a major, $31 million overhaul of the town’s sewer treatment plant and after years of excess sewerage coming from the Cheshire Correctional facility, officials are telling the state it’s time to pay up.

Cheshire Town Manager Michael Milone said Thursday that the town’s agreement has long been ignored and the town is asking the state to now front 25 percent of the bill for sewer plant upgrades.

"We met last week with members of the Department of Corrections and Attorney Generals office see if we could negotiate a settlement, but right now it's in court just sitting there," Milone said, "but in the meantime we are hoping to appeal to some of the state agencies to resolve this — we are hoping to sit down and negotiate a resolution."

So is it time for the state to pay up? Should Cheshire have filed the lawsuit? Give us your take in the comments section below.
