Kayaker Rescued From Connecticut River In Old Saybrook

OLD SAYBROOK, CT — A kayaker was hospitalized after being rescued from the mouth of the Connecticut River on Saturday morning in Old Saybrook, according to fire officials.

Officials said the Old Saybrook Fire Department’s fireboat responded at 10:15 a.m. and rescued the kayaker, who had been in the water for almost half an hour.

“Old Saybrook ambulance and Middlesex Paramedic treated and transported the patient,” officials wrote in a post on the Old Saybrook Fire Department’s Facebook page. “Marine assistance was provided by Old Lyme, Westbrook and DEEP. USCG was advised of the incident.”

Officials said Old Saybrook firefighters and police responded to the marine call from a false alarm in Fenwood and then responded to Route 9 for a medical call with Essex ambulance.

All of the incidents occurred within a 30-minute span, according to officials.
