CLINTON, CT — The beloved Beach Donut Shop in Clinton vows to rebuild after a fire caused extensive damage to its building.
At 9:45 a.m. Saturday, the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at Beach Donut, located at 344 East Main St.
First-arriving units encountered heavy smoke and fire extending into the attic space of a one-story commercial building with an attached residential unit, fire officials said.
Police officers safely evacuated the residential occupants while firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, officials said.
One person was transported by Clinton EMS for evaluation.
The affected residents and businesses have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Clinton Fire Marshal's Office with assistance from the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit.
After the fire, Beach Donut Shop shared on Facebook: "It is with great sadness that we share that Beach Donut in Clinton experienced a fire and is temporarily closed.
"Most importantly, everyone was safe, and no one was injured or harmed. We are incredibly grateful to the crews from Clinton, Westbrook, Old Saybrook and Madison fire department along with the Clinton Police Department, for their swift response and efforts in bringing the situation under control.
"We also want to thank our customers, friends, neighbors, and community members for the many messages, calls, and words of support we have received. Your kindness and encouragement mean so much to us during this difficult time.
"While we are saddened by this event, we are already making plans to begin rebuilding as soon as possible. Beach Donut has been part of this community for many years, and we look forward to welcoming you back. We will continue to keep everyone updated on our progress. Thank you for your support, patience, and understanding.— The Beach Donut Team."
In an update on Sunday, Beach Donut Shop said "We are truly overwhelmed by all the love, support, and kindness we have received after the fire. Your messages, calls, and words of encouragement have given us strength and hope during this difficult time. We honestly don’t have enough words to thank each and every one of you. Having you by our side through these challenging days means more to us than we can express. We also promise that we will do everything we can to reopen as quickly as possible, bring back the wonderful memories we’ve shared over the years, and once again enjoy warm donuts, fresh breakfast, and hot coffee together. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support. It means the world to us, and we look forward to welcoming you back very soon."
The Clinton Volunteer Fire Department thanked mutual aid partners from Westbrook CT Fire Dept, Madison Hose Co. No. 1, Killingworth Volunteer Fire Co., Old Saybrook Fire Department, Guilford Fire Department, Essex Fire Engine Co. #1, and North Madison Volunteer Fire Company, as well as Clinton CT Police Department, Clinton EMS, Middlesex Hospital Paramedics, the Clinton Building Official, and the Connecticut River Area Health District for their assistance.
