He faces charges of negligent homicide in a motor vehicle, failure to drive in the proper lane and possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

The crash occurred Sept. 5 when a tractor trailer traveling on I-95 northbound lost a load of wood near exit 64.

The load of plywood spilled over onto the southbound lanes and caused a chain reaction crash between four other vehicles, according to police.

Police said the vehicles all lost control and crashed into each other, the metal beam guardrail in the right shoulder, and the concrete barrier in the median.

Nicholas J. Kupec, 39, of Waterford, was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

An arrest warrant in the case states that Garrison failed to drive in his lane which led to the load of plywood becoming loose and falling onto the highway. Garrison also "demonstrated operator inattention," according to the warrant.

His bond was set at $50,000. Garrison was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
