Clinton Town Manager Provides Update On Boil Water Advisory, And More

CLINTON, CT — Town Manager Michelle Benivegna said the Connecticut Department of Public Health has lifted last week's boil water advisory affecting Clinton after follow-up testing confirmed the water system met state and federal drinking water standards.

In her July 22 community update, Benivegna said the advisory was issued by Connecticut Water under the direction of the state Department of Public Health and the local health district after a routine water sample collected in Essex tested positive for E. coli. Although the issue did not originate in Clinton, the town was affected because it is part of the Guilford Water System.

Benivegna said the town worked with Connecticut Water, the Department of Public Health and the local health district to provide residents with updates through the town website, social media and other communication channels, while also sharing information about free potable water distribution sites established by Connecticut Water. She thanked residents for their patience and also recognized Connecticut Water, the Department of Public Health, the local health district, emergency responders and town staff for their response during the advisory.

Benivegna also provided updates on several municipal infrastructure projects.

She said work continues on the Beach Park Road Bridge and Tide Gate project despite periods when construction activity is not visible. According to Benivegna, the marine construction project is affected by tides, weather, environmental regulations and required concrete curing times. During those periods, crews continue working off-site by preparing materials and fabricating components for upcoming construction phases. She said key foundation work for the new bridge and tide gate structures has been completed and that more of the bridge structure should become visible in the coming months.

Benivegna also said the town continues working with the Connecticut Department of Transportation on the Waterside Lane bridge replacement project. She said the state has agreed to pursue a design exemption that would allow the bridge to better fit the surrounding neighborhood while continuing to meet applicable safety standards.

On Route 81, Benivegna said paving work is underway from the library through the Indian River complex and will continue toward Killingworth. She encouraged motorists to expect delays, use alternate routes when possible and exercise caution while traveling through construction zones.

Benivegna also highlighted several upcoming community events.

The town's Summer Concert Series continues Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Pierson School Gazebo, featuring the band Rock Bottom.

She said Clinton's largest America 250 celebration is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, and will include historical reenactments, colonial demonstrations, an open house at the Stanton House, live music, family activities, food and performances throughout downtown.

Benivegna also reminded residents that Clinton Dock Days is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29, at the town marina. Planned activities include a build-a-boat contest and race, a dog diving competition, a children's fishing contest, food and entertainment, along with the second annual Clinton Boat Parade and the town's annual fireworks display at the Town Beach.
