OLD SAYBROOK, CT — The owner of Fenwick Ice Cream Co. in Old Saybrook is retiring "after many years of serving ice cream and creating so many wonderful memories," according to a Facebook post from the shop.
However, devotees need not fear as the shop already has new owners lined up. Ben Waterbury and Erin Gray, a brother-and-sister team who own the Crazy Cow Creamery in Wolcott, are taking the reins.
"We know how much Fenwicks has meant to this community, and we know how much Rich means to so many of you," they wrote on Facebook. "We're incredibly grateful that he trusted us to carry on what he's built, and we wish him nothing but the best in this next chapter."
The shop is located at 855 Boston Post Road and has served ice cream for over 30 years. Fenwick's has also been voted "Best Made Ice Cream in CT" by Connecticut Magazine four times.
"And before anyone asks... yes, Toasted Almond is here to stay. Don't panic," the post from the new owners reads.
"Over the next few months, you may notice a few changes around the shop. We'll be making some updates while working hard to preserve everything that has made this place so special, while adding a few touches of our own."
They added that at their Wolcott location, they've "always believed ice cream should be fun." The shop incorporates name of the day, creative specials and "other little surprises throughout the season."
