Attempted Home Burglary, Shoplifting Incidents Under Investigation in Clinton: PD

Clinton Police detail recent calls the department has responded to, including possible scams and shoplifting incidents.

CLINTON, CT — Several residents reported possible scams, including over the phone and a potential Craigslist purchase, along with an attempted burglary in recent calls to the Clinton Police Department.

Police also responded to a reported shoplifting at Casual Male in which the suspects stole Polo shirts and another incident of a man passing a forged prescription at Walgreens.

Call # 16-17194, Investigating officer: Cpl. Craig Lee Scam by Phone report, Summary:

On 10/01/16 at approximately 0842 hours, a complainant from Founder Road reported a possible scam. She received a disturbing text message on her phone that was phone the number of 415-236-5502. This number is to a spoof pre-paid phone. The complainant recognized this was a possible scam and deleted the message.

Call # 16-17443, Investigating officer: Ofc. David Cairns Scam by Internet report, Summary:

On 10/05/16 at approximately 1031 hours, a complainant from Glenwood Road reported a possible scam. He was selling a product on Craigslist and the buyer wanted to pay over twice the amount for the item with a check. The complainant recognized this as a scam and did not deposit the check which was not a valid one.

Call # 16-17469, Investigating officer: Ofc. Lorenzo Lombardo Theft by Shoplifting Report Summary:

On 10/05/16 at approximately 1844 hours, a complainant from the Casual Male store on Glenwood Road reported a shoplifting. The caller reported that three African American males stole Polo shirts on this date. There was further description provided. The matter is under investigation.

Call # 16-17505, Investigating officer: Ofc. David Cairns Fraudulent Prescription report Summary:

On 10/06/16 at approximately 1039 hours, a complainant from the Walgreens store on East Main Street reported a suspicious vehicle and person. The complainant reported that a black male operator in a gray Audi SUV with New York plates passed a forged prescription. The matter is under investigation.

Call # 16-17511, Investigating officer: Ofc. Glenn Smith Suspicious Motor vehicle report Summary:

On 10/06/16 at approximately 1335 hours, a complainant from Ben Merrill Road reported a suspicious vehicle. The caller reported a gray Minivan occupied by two black males was traveling slowly in the area, several times. The vehicle had left the area prior to the officers arrival.

Call # 16-17949, Investigating officer: Ofc. Glenn Smith Att Burglary to Residence report Summary: On 10/13/16 at approximately 0955 hours, a complainant from Whitewood Road reported an attempted break in. The matter is under investigation.

Call # 16-18016, Theft, shoplifting report, Investigating officer: Ofc. Lorenzo Lombardo Summary:

On 10/14/16 at approximately 1446 hours, a complainant from Shoprite store on East Main Street reported a shoplifting incident. The complainant reported theft of paper towels and detergent. No further description was provided. The matter is under investigation.
