An Enthusiastic Endorsement for Clinton

Leaders can't hide when a crisis develops. The reins are in steady hands in Clinton.

The qualities a leader possesses are never more on display than during a crisis. Tropical Storm Irene provided a stern test for municipal officials throughout Connecticut.  This message endorses what many citizens of Clinton have already voiced--Willie Fritz was a marvel of energy, decisiveness, and creativity.

First Selectman Fritz was like the best of battlefield commanders; he led by example and he led from the front.  The response by the Clinton community to neighbors in need was swift and generous.  Supplies had been stockpiled prior to the storm, smoothly distributed, and then replenished through the coordinated efforts of town employees and volunteers.

Mr. Fritz was everywhere.  Organizing hot meals for those without, personally securing water and M.R.E.'s from the state site at Rentschler Field, and overseeing rescue and restoration efforts were only a few of his contributions.  He devoted himself to the long hours needed and extended his hand on innumerable occasions to the neediest among us.

The residents of Clinton should take great pride in the outpouring of generosity and the amazing spirit of cooperation evident over those stressful days.  They already know how blessed they are to have Willie Fritz as their First Selectman and Clinton's most effective cheerleader.
