Celebrating National Prevention Week
May 21-25 marks the first-ever celebration of National Prevention Week.
May 21-25 marks the first-ever celebration of National Prevention Week. The country's Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) created this observance to recognize the hard work done by communities to create healthy, safe places for youth and adults to live.
You are are surely asking yourself "How can I take part in this celebration?!"
First, begin by giving yourself, your family members and your neighbors a pat on the back. Heck, you can even throw in some balloons and cupcakes if you're really feeling festive! Be proud because YOU are all part of Clinton's effort to support, inspire and empower our young people, whether you realize it or not.

Next, continue to do what you have been doing! Make an increased, intentional effort to reach out to young people in positive ways. You can do this by:
- spreading the word about the First Selectman's Task Force and Morgan REACT, especially the Felix project,
- having family conversations about values and expectations. ParentFurther is a great resource for topics and tips,
- supporting local businesses and organizations that are partners in our healthy community,
- becoming an active participant in community life here in Clinton, such as attending town meetings and events,
- simply saying "Hello!" to other Clintonites you see!
