This week I would like you to take a look at the art you have and where it is on your walls. Most people hang their art too high and it just takes away from the impact. Instead of looking at the art, you are looking at how funny it looks up near the ceiling! When you go to an art museum are you craning your neck to look up??
If you look at this picture (Better Homes and Garden) you will see that the pictures are very close to the top of the sofa. You really only want to be 6″ – 8″ above. Yes, you read it correctly!! I want you to also note that the pictures hang in the same width as the sofa which also gives it a pleasing look. It is ok if they are a shorter width than your sofa but if they extend beyond the width it doesn’t look as well.
If you are on a wall with no furniture, check and make sure it is more at eye height (think of that art museum!) Also, make sure you hang the right size on the wall. If you have a long wall do NOT put up a small picture in the middle – it just doesn’t look right! It would be better to leave the wall blank until you have more pictures to group!
