This is a topic with much debate. I think it would depend on a few factors.
- The condition of the house: Is it extremely dusty before you start?
- Do you have the right equipment?
- Does the house have a lot of traffic, children and pets?
What are some of the things that omit dust?
Did you know that pulling a tissue out of its box, it omits particles?

So, do you dust or vacuum first?
Dusting first? If you are using a terry cloth or old washcloth dry. Any dust falling from your cloth will land on the floor. But, what if you use a dampened cloth, or a microfiber cloth and maybe even a natural furniture polish? This won’t happen.
Do you vacuum first? If you have an old vacuum cleaner or even a new one with just a bag, chances are you are blowing the dust back into the room or not getting up a lot of the dust or dirt from the floor, if it doesn’t have a sealed system HEPA-FILTER. Having a vacuum cleaner with a sealed system HEPA-FILTER, you are removing 99.9 % of the dust from the air.
Using the right tools makes a huge difference.
I think it’s really your preference.
Happy Cleaning!
