Car Burglar Caught After Ramming Police Cruiser In Old Saybrook

Police say several vehicles were burglarized overnight and a suspect was caught after attempting to flee in a stolen car.

OLD SAYBROOK, CT — A West Haven resident was caught burglarizing vehicles during the overnight hours in Old Saybrook and was apprehended after ramming a state police cruiser and attempting to flee on foot, according to police. The suspect, whose name wasn’t immediately released by police, is in custody and police are searching for another suspect in connection to the burglaries.

Old Saybrook Police say they are investigating several car burglaries that took place in the area of George Drive and Old Colony Road during the overnight hours on May 10. The suspect was apprehended after a vehicle pursuit that began on George Drive at about 3:25 a.m. and ended on Spencer Plains Road. The suspect was driving a vehicle that was stolen out of Ansonia, according to police.

The pursuit ended when the driver in the stolen vehicle attempted to ram an Old Saybrook Police cruiser and then rammed a Connecticut State Police cruiser. Two suspects then ran out of the car and the West Haven resident was apprehended after a foot chase, according to Old Saybrook Police.

Police say there were no injuries in the incident and the department is recovering many of the items stolen from vehicles.

Police are advising anyone who thinks their car was burglarized to not touch it and to call the police department at 860-395-3142.
