Clinton Volunteer Fire Department Reports Busy January with Increased Calls
The Volunteer Fire Department experienced a significant increase in service calls during January, exceeding volumes from the previous years.
CLINTON, CT — The Clinton Volunteer Fire Department responded to 221 calls for service in January. This volume represents an 18 percent increase from 2024 and a 10 percent increase from 2025. January, typically a slower month for the department, saw call volumes more consistent with summer activity.
Fire department members addressed several fires within the Town of Clinton and provided mutual aid to neighboring communities. The month's prolonged cold temperatures and snowfall created challenges for incident response and service maintenance.
Members spent multiple days clearing nearly 350 fire hydrants and over a dozen water holes. The extended cold also required daily checks to clear ice from around the department’s boat, ensuring its operational readiness.

The Clinton Volunteer Fire Department operates two plow trucks. These trucks are used to maintain department parking areas, hydrants, and water holes. They also lead responding apparatus during storm conditions to ensure safe access to incident scenes.
This plowing capability is valuable during significant winter storms. Utilizing the department's own plow resources allows the Clinton Department of Public Works to focus on keeping town roads open and passable.
