Gas Station Robbed At Knifepoint In Clinton: Police

The suspect pointed a knife at the cashier after approaching the counter while holding snacks and a beverage, according to police.

CLINTON, CT — A suspect is in custody in connection with the armed robbery of a gas station Sunday night in Clinton, according to police.

Police responded to the Exxon gas station at 56 West Main Street around 7:30 p.m. on the report of an armed robbery, according to Detective Corporal Spencer Mangs.

Mangs said the suspect left the area in a vehicle before police arrived at the scene.

The cashier told police that a man entered the store around 7:25 p.m. and approached the counter while holding snacks and a beverage after already buying gas at the pumps. The cashier said that once he opened the cash register to make change, the man showed a large kitchen knife and pointed it toward him, according to Mangs.

As the cashier backed away, the man reached over the counter and into the cash register and stole an undetermined amount of cash before leaving in an SUV, according to Mangs.

Mangs said after “a swift but thorough investigation,” police identified a suspect, who is currently in custody on unrelated charges in another town.

Clinton detectives are investigation the robbery and charges are pending, according to Mangs.

“This was an isolated incident and there is no continued threat towards the public,” Mangs said.
