Geraldine (Smith) Petersen: Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven

Geraldine (Smith) Petersen, 82 of Clinton passed away March 26, 2026. She was born December 20, 1943 in Quincy MA to Vincent and Margaret (Delaney) Smith. Geraldine is survived by her two children, Kristina Carroll (David) of Clinton and Gregory Petersen (Kris) of Mystic along with three grandchildren; Paul Petersen, Vincent Carafino and Olivia Hickin and one great grandson, Michael Paul Hickin. Geraldine is also survived by her two siblings; David Smith of Cape Cod and Marilyn Grant (Joseph) of Mass.

Geraldine is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul Petersen (1991) and a brother, Vincent Smith.

Geraldine‘s family was the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent together- whether it was sharing stories, laughter, or simply being in each other‘s company. She will be remembered for her kindness, her sense of humor, and the love she gave so freely to those around her. Geraldine cherished her friends, spending time at the beach, and enjoying lunch with her girlfriends. She had a special place in her heart for animals and lovingly cared for many pets throughout her life. She was rarely without a beloved dog by her side and helped homeless cats and dogs find loving homes.

Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Mass of Christian burial at 11 AM on Wednesday April 8, 2026 in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 54 Grove Street, Clinton CT (Please go directly to the church). Burial will be private and all services are under the care of the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Army’s Legacy, 647 Horse Hill Rd, Westbrook, CT 06498, armyslegacy.org, 203-915-4722, in memory of Geraldine Petersen.
