Starting any weight loss or exercise program can seem like a huge task, but with some motivation, patience, and the right mindset you can do anything. Here are a few tips to help you get started on your worth wild journey to a healthier, happier, skinner you!
1. Set a reasonable goal for yourself. Most people start by saying I want to lose ____ pounds in _____weeks or I am going to exercise ______ many times a week. Doing that is great, but go a little deeper. Analyze your goal, is it something that is obtainable for you and your lifestyle? If you set the bar too high you are more likely to give up when you don’t reach it. So be sure that you can make your goal, then set another when you get there.
2. Keep track of your progress. If your goal is to lose pounds or inches write down where you start, if it is to workout a certain number of times then mark it on your calendar. Then mark what you do. Write down that you did one hour of cardio on Tuesday instead of the 40 minutes you planned on. Seeing the success will help you keep it up.

3. Make time for yourself, and set workout reminders. Finding time can be hard for most but instead of finding time, make it. Cut out a half hour of your tv watching, surf the web less, or get in a workout during your lunch hour. Those are all great places to steal a few moments from because even a short workout is better than none. Once you pick your time put it on your calendar and keep the appointment with yourself. You may even try setting an alarm.
4. Be mindful of your abilities. Remember the old saying practice makes perfect, it is the same thing with fitness. When doing your first workout in a while pay attention to your body, it is ok to take a break and grab some water when you need it. Just keep coming back, before you know it you’ll be stronger than you ever expected.

5. Get the right gear. What your wear for your workout can make a huge difference. Make sure you have sneakers that are comfortable with plenty of support. The wrong shoes can cause foot, knee, leg, hip, and even back pain. Also, pick out some fun outfits. Putting on something that makes you feel good can give you an extra pop of energy.
6. Drink water before, during, and after your workout. You actually burn less calories when your body feels dehydrated because you start going into survival mode. So drink up!
7. Make your workout social. Get a buddy, go to group classes. Humans are social we feel more motivated when we promise someone else that we will do it with them.
8. Don’t be afraid to start again. If you don’t keep your goal it is ok, just start over. It is better to get there late than never!
