CLINTON, CT — Clinton Police are asking for the public’s assistance with identifying a suspect in connection to a shoplifting incident at Stewards Ace Hardware on Wednesday afternoon. Police say the theft occurred at about 1:40 p.m. at the store, located at 114 East Main Street in Clinton.
Police say the suspect, described as a white male in his early 40s, walked into Ace Hardware wearing a blue, "Yeti" brand hat, a bright blue puffy winter jacket, blue jeans, and big black boots. The man walked around the store for less than 10 minutes before picking up two 100-foot indoor/outdoor extension cords and walking around the store with them, according to police.
“While walking around the store the male party removed the packaging off of one of the extension cords prior to walking up to the cashier,” police wrote in a press release. “After the cashier rung out the first extension cord she asked the male party for the second one which he still had underneath his arm. The male party stated that it was his extension cord, and he had walked into the store with it with the intention of comparing it to the new extension cord he was going to purchase. The reporting party stated that after reviewing store surveillance video it shows the male walked into the store empty handed.”
