How Clean Is The Cafeteria In Your Kid's School?

An Independent Source Took A Closer Look At Schools In Clinton And Across The State

Unless you work for the school lunch program, most of us do not get a "behind the scenes" look at the cleanliness of our school cafeterias.

But someone did in fact go behind the scenes with a white glove and magnifying glass.

The Connecticut Health I-Team recently compiled a database of school cafeteria inspections for 103 cities and towns across Connecticut. The database, hosted by the New Haven Independent, is searchable by town.

It lists all four Clinton schools and ranks them from 1-100, 100 being the best. It also lists the date of inspection, any violations, and notes from the inspector both "negative" and "positive."

Jon Siciliano, Food Services Director for Clinton Public Schools, said he has worked in a variety of kitchens over the years across a lot of industries and school kitchens are by far the cleanest.

"All of our cooks take great pride in their kitchens and they are constantly cleaning them," he said.  "Also, the custodial staffs at the schools do a great job in cleaning the floors on a daily basis. In addition, all of our schools have ServSafe certified staff on hand, meaning they have attended classes on proper safety and sanitation and continue to maintain that certification on a yearly basis."
