Sports run deep in Clinton, and The Morgan School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Husky uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from The Morgan School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.


1. Mark Carlson – NFL Offensive Tackle (Washington Redskins)

Carlson is a former Super Bowl Champion who began his athletic career at The Morgan School in Clinton, where he starred in football and basketball. He played college football at Southern Connecticut State University and went on to play as an offensive tackle in the NFL for the Washington Redskins in 1987. 2. Lisa Barbaro - Star Volleyball & Basketball Player

Barbaro was a standout multi-sport athlete at The Morgan School, excelling mainly in volleyball and basketball. During her high school career, she helped her teams win six state championships and received multiple honors, including All-State and New Haven Register Athlete of the Year awards. She was inducted into the New Haven Tap-Off Club’s Basketball Hall of Fame and later into the Clinton Athletic Hall of Fame. 3. Greg Novarro - Collegiate Football Player

Novarro was a prominent football player for The Morgan School before attending Bentley University. At Bentley, he became the program’s first All-American, setting several school records at the time. Novarro was inducted into both the Bentley University Athletics Hall of Fame and the Clinton Athletic Hall of Fame. (Sources: BentleyFalcons, Zip06)


4. Meredith Thornton - Star Basketball Player

Thornton was a celebrated multi-sport athlete at The Morgan School, earning All-Shoreline honors in soccer and All-State recognition in basketball. A 1,000-point scorer in basketball, she led her teams to Shoreline and State Championships. She briefly played basketball at Monmouth University, then continued her success in law enforcement, receiving a “Salute to the Finest” award in 2024. 5. Patrick “Pat” Hedge - Star Football & Baseball Player

Hege was a two-sport standout at The Morgan School, a captain and All-State honoree in both football and baseball. At the University of Hartford, he was a three-time team captain, leading his teams to championship appearances.
