Police say the suspect acquired the victim's information through an automated calling system claiming to be the victim's phone carrier.

CLINTON, CT — The Clinton Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect in an identity theft case. Police say the suspect (pictured in the black long sleeve shirt) acquired the victim’s information through an automated calling system claiming to be the victim’s phone carrier.

The automation system asked for the victim’s full name, address, social security number, contact number, and account pin number as a “security precaution,” according to police. The automated system claimed by be Verizon, however, when all identifying information was obtained, the recording stated, “We’re experiencing high call volumes, you will be called back, thank you for calling AT&T,” according to police.

Police said about a week after receiving the suspicious call, the victim’s phone account was “taken over and lines of credit had been applied for and approved. After using the line of credit, the suspect attempted to get an increase and was denied.”
