Man Charged In Old Saybrook Nursing Home Death: Reports

A patient at a nursing home has been accused in another patient's death. The two men allegedly argued over TV volume last year.

OLD SAYBROOK, CT — Police arrested a man in connection with a death at a nursing home last year, according to NBC CT. Stephen Luckett, 70, of Falling Waters, WV, was a patient at Apple Rehab at 1775 Boston Post Road in Old Saybrook. He is accused in the death of Edward Flynn, 87.

Police responded to a call June 2, 2022. The two men, who had rooms across from each other, argued over the volume of the TV, NBC CT reported.

Luckett pushed Flynn, causing him to fall backward and hit his neck on the doorframe. Flynn was unable to get up and was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

Flynn had surgery on his fractured neck June 4, but died June 17, WTNH News-8 reported. The Chief Medical Examiner ruled Flynn's death a homicide due to blunt force trauma to his neck.

Luckett told police he walked over to shut Flynn's door because of the TV volume when Flynn opened the door and confronted him. The two men argued before Luckett pushed Flynn's walker, though he said he didn't push Flynn's body, according to WTNH News-8.
