Obituary: Edward C. Butler, 88, of Clinton
He was a custodian at Tuxis Lumber & Hardware Store in Madison, and also at Our Lady of Mercy School and St. Margaret Parish.

Edward C. Butler (88) passed away at CT Hospice of Branford on February 23, 2018. Ed was born on June 21, 1929 in New Haven, CT to the late Charles Edward and Madaline (Sagnella) Butler. Ed grew up in New Haven and West Haven; moved to Clinton in 1978.
Ed worked for Armstrong Rubber Company, now known as Pirelli Tire, for 38 years, retiring in 1986, with two year interruption in the U.S. Army (1951-1953). Ed had various jobs after retiring, working at Prowler Tire Company in Guilford, Arthur Drug Store in Clinton, Shoreline Gymnastics in Old Saybrook. Ed also worked as custodian from 1997 to 2012 at Tuxis Lumber & Hardware Store in Madison, and also at Our Lady of Mercy School and St. Margaret Parish Center in Madison.

Ed is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia (Fowler) of Clinton, and their daughter, Robyn Elizabeth, and her fiancé, Jarrett Belego, of Ledyard, CT. Ed is also survived by his first wife Lois Smith Chapman and their children Wayne (Donna) Butler, Brian Butler and Cheryl LaLiberty; grandchildren Melissa, Christina, Jillian and Nicholas; great grandchildren, Tori and Autumn. Ed is also survived by his brother, Robert (Shirley) Butler, sister-in-law, Maureen Fowler (Michael) Simpson, and nephews and nieces. Ed was very well liked by all who came to know him; a very gentle man.
Ed enjoyed reading and listening to music, especially jazz and the Big Bands. Ed also enjoyed watching his daughter Robyn compete in her gymnastic meets. Ed’s family would like to thank CT Hospice of Branford, Middlesex Hospital and Hospice Care, and Aaron Manor Nursing Facility for taking very good care of him. Friends and family may call at Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church Street, Guilford on March 2, 2018, at 9:00 - 10:30 a.m., followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass at St. Mary of the Visitation Church, 54 Grove Street, Clinton, Burial will be private at the VA Cemetery in Middletown, CT with military honors.
