The 160-module array will produce 76,600 kilowatt hours of Class I renewable energy every year without generating any emissions. Additionally, the array will offset about 54 metric tons of carbon dioxide every year – equivalent to the amount of CO2 emissions produced by 6,108 gallons of gas.
“Econo Lodge is a prime example of how going solar can be a smart way for businesses to reduce their electricity costs and increase customer satisfaction,” said William Herchel, CEO of Verogy. “We’re thankful for the opportunity to help a local Connecticut business take advantage of all the benefits that renewable energy has to offer.”

“Verogy provided us with extensive support and expertise through every step of the solar energy process, ensuring successful completion of this project,” said Mayur Solanki, Owner of Econo Lodge Inn & Suites in Old Saybrook. “Our rooftop solar array will offset half of our energy costs, which will help us better serve our customers in Old Saybrook.”
In addition to cost savings from the rooftop solar project, Econo Lodge received financial support from Connecticut’s ZREC (Zero Emissions Renewable Energy Credit) program. Econo Lodge was awarded a ZREC contract which served as the main funding source for the project, offsetting nearly 80% of its costs.
