Stop & Shop Sets Closure Date For Clinton Store: Report

National retailers have expressed interest in the grocery store's space, according to a report.

CLINTON, CT — Stop & Shop will close its doors for good in Clinton on Oct. 29, according to The Connecticut Scoop.

The store is located at 215 E. Main St. and has a footprint of 60,694 square feet.

The space, which the grocer occupied for decades, has been generating interest from some national retailers, though nothing has been finalized, The Connecticut Scoop reported.

The shopping plaza will add a new retailer when Steward Ace Hardware moves into the former TJ Maxx space this fall.

Stop & Shop officials made the decision not to renew the store's lease at the end of 2025. The company said the store was not performing to expectations.

Employees are being offered the opportunity to transfer to other Stop & Shop stores.

There are other Stop & Shops nearby in Madison and Old Saybrook.

Aldi is moving into a space across the street from Stop & Shop. The discount grocer will be next to Walgreens at 224 to 230 E. Main St. in Clinton.
