Donation Jar Thief Identified: Clinton Police (UPDATE)

Police say a positive identification has been made thanks to the public's assistance.

CLINTON, CT — In a Thursday night update, Clinton Police said they have identified the suspect accused of stealing a donation jar from the Shell Mart on High Street thanks to the assistance of the community on social media and the electronic media.

As a result of the positive identification, an arrest warrant is being prepared for the suspect, according to Sgt. Jeremiah Dunn. (To sign up for Clinton breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Dunn said police will not be releasing the suspect’s name until the warrant is active.

“Clinton Police would like to thank those who came forward to assist in this matter and to reiterate to our public, that we cannot do it all alone,” Dunn said in an email. “We truly rely on the public’s assistance in many different types of cases, such as this particular one.”

CLINTON, CT — Clinton Police are asking for the public’s assistance with identifying a suspect accused of stealing a donation jar at a Shell gas station. The theft took place at the Shell gas station on High Street at about 6:30 p.m. on May 30, according to police.

Police say a surveillance video shows the man taking a donation jar with his right hand and hiding it under his jacket, as the clerk turned his back and walked away for a brief moment.

The donation jar had approximately $50 in cash inside of it.

The suspect is described by police as a black male in his 20s with long hair, heavy set, and was wearing a maroon “Kyrie Irving” Cleveland Cavaliers basketball jersey. The man got into a silver SUV that is believed to be a Chevy, according to police.
