Town Of Clinton Issues Reminder On Fireworks Laws And Safety As Number Of Complaints Rises

Fireworks use by non-licensed individuals is illegal, and only those 16 or older can buy and use sparklers and fountains.

There has been an increase in the number of fireworks related complaints in recent weeks. Fireworks are not allowed by law in Connecticut for use by non-professional, non-licensed users. Sparklers and fountains, which technically are not considered fireworks, may be sold to and used by persons older than 16.

Aerial and explosive fireworks are extremely dangerous. The hot debris can land anywhere causing injuries and fires. If you observe aerial or explosive fireworks being used, please contact us and report as many details as possible, including specific areas where these fireworks are being launched or used.

LEGAL:•Sparklers & fountains, which are non-explosive and non-aerial.•Can only be purchased & used by persons age 16 or older.•These items are still very dangerous. Sparklers burn at temperatures over 2000 degrees fahrenheit.

ILLEGAL:•Aerial & Explosive Fireworks•Novelty items such as party poppers, snakes, smoke devices and anything that emits a flame.•Illegal fireworks can bring with them not only the potential for property damage, but could cause serious or fatal injury.
