Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Bust On I-95 In Clinton: State Police

Police say the suspect, who was driving over 90 mph, was found to be in the possession of more than 9.5 pounds of marijuana.

CLINTON, CT — A Rhode Island man was found to be in the possession of more than 9.5 pounds of marijuana after State Police say he was driving over 90 mph on I-95 North in Clinton early Sunday morning. Mohamed Jones, 21, of Providence, Rhode Island, is accused of exceeding 90 mph in the area of Exit 62 in Clinton at about 12:40 a.m. on Nov. 26. He was stopped shortly after the Exit 63 entrance and the state trooper immediately detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, according to the police report.

Police found two small baggies and a loose quantity inside the ash tray were located in the cabin of the vehicle, according to the report. During a search of the trunk, police found nine large clear plastic heat-sealed bags, inside of a large blue cloth bag.

In total more than 9.5 pounds of marijuana were located in the vehicle and seized, according to police.

Jones was arrested on charges of reckless driving, possession of marijuana and possession with the intent to sell. He was unable to post a $100,000 bond and was taken to Hartford Correctional pending a court appearance on Nov. 27, according to police.
