Trio Charged After Trying to Use an 80-Year-Old Clinton Woman's ID to Purchase Cell Phones: Police

The Old Saybrook Police Department charged three people with trying to purchase several cell phones illegally at the AT&T store.

The Old Saybrook Police Department responded to the AT&T Phone Store on Main Street for a suspicious female customer.

Officers quickly determined that a female, Latonya Roberts,42, of 116 Stratford Avenue in Bridgeport was allegedly attempting to purchase cell phones valued at over $1,200 using the identity of a woman in her eighties that lived in Clinton.

Roberts, was found to allegedly have 11 fraudulent Connecticut and Pennsylvania driver licenses in different names and 2 fraudulent credit cards, police said.

A male accomplice had been outside the store, acting as a look out, and fled when police arrived. He was located a short time later when officers tracked him to the train station where he had purchased a train ticket to New Haven.

This male, identified as Francisco Zambrano, 21, of Greenwich Aveinue in New Haven allegedly possessed six fraudulent Connecticut and Pennsylvania driver licenses in different names and had two outstanding warrants from other departments, police said.

A third accomplice was located in a nearby vehicle waiting for the pair to return. He was identified as Esmaylin Delacruz, 28, of Knoll Avenue in Milford.

Knoll allegedly had 14 fraudulent Connecticut and Pennsylvania driver licenses in different names, over $1200 worth of phones obtained illegally from a different AT&T and was in possession of an illegal credit card embosser, which is used to put names on credit cards.

The three individuals were held on bond and will be presented in Middletown Superior Court on Friday.

Roberts was being held on $150,000 bond, Delacruz and Zambrano were each held on $100,000 bond.

They were each charged with numerous larceny and forgery charges.

The investigation is continuing and investigative information is being provided to other departments to aid in their investigations.
