CLINTON, CT — Surveillance cameras captured the frightening moment that an SUV crashes into the convenience store at a Shell gas station and sends the clerk flying in last week’s accident.
Fortunately, and somewhat amazingly, the clerk didn’t suffer any broken bones in the crash and is said to be home recuperating and is expected to make a full recovery, according to police.
The clerk, a 33-year-old man from Old Saybrook, did sustain bruises and contusions in the crash, police said.

On Thursday, Clinton Police released surveillance videos of the accident, which occurred at about 6 p.m. on Sept. 1 at the Shell station on East Main Street.
“The video depicts that it appears as if the motorist in the SUV takes evasive action and turns to his left to avoid striking the parked white van, and accelerates instead of braking into the front of the store,” Sgt. Jeremiah F. Dunn said in a press release.

The operator, Christopher Caterino, 64, of Greenfield, New York, was cited for reckless driving.
Police at the scene determined alcohol/drugs were not a contributing factor to the accident, according to Dunn.
