Webster Bank Closes Old Saybrook Branch

OLD SAYBROOK, CT — Webster Bank has closed its Old Saybrook location. The 723 Boston Post Road bank branch closed June 9.

The bank maintains locations nearby in Essex and Old Lyme. The bank did not specify how many people were employed at the branch but said that all employees have retained positions at other branches in the area, according to The News-Times.

In late 2020, Webster Bank announced it would be closing 27 branches, including 16 in Connecticut. The move came as the bank reported that more customers were choosing mobile and online services since the beginning of the pandemic.

A Wells Fargo branch in Monroe also closed earlier this month on June 7.

Meanwhile, JP Morgan Chas has gone in the opposite direction of most banks, adding two physical locations in Vernon and East Hartford.
