Westbrook Dance Academy Takes Fourth at World Dance Championship
Team Also Awarded Outstanding Performance Award
The Westbrook Dance Academy Senior Competition Team recently competed in the World Dance Championship in Secaucus, NJ on August 5, 2017 and finished fourth in the 15-19 Small Group Division. The team competed against qualifying dances from across the United States, Canada, France, China, Mexico, Australia, and Great Britain. Of the over 200,000 routines that compete in the Star Dance Alliance few qualify for the World Dance Championship. The team’s dance “Pandemonium” qualified in March at the Hartford, CT regional.
“Pandemonium” advanced to the finals by finishing in the top five in the semifinal round in one of the largest divisions at the World Dance Championship. The team was also awarded the Outstanding Performance Award for the division for their commitment to character. In the finals the team delivered another amazing performance en route its fourth place finish. Senior Competition Team members Brandi Andrade and Victoria Holton are from Westbrook, Mara Kelley, Katherine Izadi, and Courtney Briggs are from Old Saybrook and Miles Waterbury is from Clinton.
This marked the second time in three years that the Westbrook Dance Academy Senior Competition team has placed at the World Dance Championship.
