Patel was purchasing merchandise and gift cards at Clinton Crossings and merchants became suspicious of her when they said if a card was declined, she would just use another from a stack of cards, according to police.

Patel was also found to have a fake New Jersey license with a false name in her possession at the time of her arrest, according to police.

Police said the fake name on the license matched the fake name on the credit cards. The numbers embossed on the credit card did not match the numbers on the magnetic strips on the cards, according to police.

Officers located merchandise and receipts in Patel’s vehicle, including receipts from malls in the tristate area. The receipts indicated similar transactions in the recent past, according to police.

Police said Patel was in possession of more than $2,800 in merchandise and gift cards from various stores at the Clinton Crossing outlet mall.

Patel was charged with 45 counts of unlawful reproduction of a credit card, 11 counts of Illegal use of a credit card, third-degree larceny and second-degree forgery (for the fake license).

Patel was released on $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on Oct. 10.
