Woman Provided Heroin to Old Saybrook Man in Fatal Overdose: Feds
The woman pleaded guilty to a federal charge of distributing heroin that authorities say resulted in the death of a 26-year-old man.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Wallingford woman pleaded guilty to a federal charge of distributing heroin that resulted in a fatal overdose of a 26-year-old man in Old Saybrook, according to authorities.
Brittany Esposito, 27, pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court in Hartford to one count of distribution of heroin, U.S. States Attorney Deirdre M. Daly and Michael J. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration for New England, announced in a press release.
The charge stems from an ongoing statewide initiative targeting narcotics dealers who distribute heroin, fentanyl or opioids that cause death or serious injury to users.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on May 14, Old Saybrook Police and emergency medical personnel responded to a report of a suspected overdose at an apartment on Main Street in Old Saybrook. The victim, a 26-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators seized the victim’s iPhone, one empty wax paper fold and several syringes.

The investigation, which has included the analysis of numerous text messages, revealed that Esposito purchased heroin for the victim on credit and then provided the heroin to the victim on May 13, Daly said in the release.
Esposito, who was arrested on June 16, is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 9 at which time she faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.
Esposito is released on bond pending sentencing.
