Woman Robbed Of $400 While Waiting To Buy Cigarettes: State PD

Police are investigating a 'strong-armed robbery' that occurred in Westbrook.

WESTBROOK, CT — Police are investigating a “strong-armed robbery” in which a woman was robbed of $400 while she was waiting to buy cigarettes at JoJo’s Food Mart in Westbrook early Saturday morning. The incident occurred at about 1 a.m. on Aug. 11 while the victim was waiting at the counter to pay for cigarettes, according to state police.

Police say the victim was holding a bank envelope that contained $400 when a black male, described to be in his mid-20s to early 30s and wearing a bluish purple hoodie, with the hood pulled up, and multi-colored shorts entered the store. The man then approached the victim and “swiftly pulled the envelope from her hand” and ran out of the store north on Route 1 toward Café Routier, according to police.

A K-9 was dispatched to the area to conduct a track but the suspect wasn’t located.
