• UConn football coach was drinking for hours before crashing in Tolland, fleeing scene, warrant says (ctinsider.com) — A UConn assistant football coach is accused of drinking for hours at a Coventry bar before crashing his car into a tree in nearby Tolland and leaving the scene, according to state police. The warrant details his alleged alcohol purchases in Coventry, witness concerns about his driving, and the charges he now faces in Rockville Superior Court.
• Connecticut inspector suspended after interactions tied to funeral home owner accused of $1M theft (ctpost.com) — A state health inspector was suspended over misconduct tied to a funeral home chain whose former owner is accused of stealing more than $1 million in prepaid funeral funds, including from locations in Coventry and nearby towns. While the inspector denies wrongdoing, Coventry families with pre-need arrangements at those homes may be watching closely as the owner heads toward a plea deal.
• Robert Thomas Wolfe Johnson (leesburg-news.com) — A longtime Coventry resident, veteran, and retired Manchester police officer, Robert Thomas Wolfe Johnson, has died at 78 after many years rooted in the Coventry community. His family invites friends to calling hours on Sunday, October 11, at Potter Funeral Home in Willimantic, where military honors will be rendered. Memorial donations may be made to the Manchester Police Department.
